With an average age of around 8-10 years, the Classic range is all about freshness and varietal character balanced by subtle age complexity from time in barrel. The palate is fresh and stylish, with a great depth of flavour. Muscat is a wine style unique to Australia, with this product captivating for its rich & intense flavour. WINE MAKERS NOTES A deep brown core with amber rim, there is a rich bouquet of intense preserved fruit and a touch of nutty complexity with rich and luscious flavours filling the mouth, finishing dry through the integration of oak.
James Halliday describes this as “plump raisins dipped in toffee, fruitcake straight from the oven, orange peel and fresh muscat notes”. If that doesn’t sound like Christmas, we’re not sure what does. Another stunning fortified wine from David Morris
Over 155 years, the Morris family have earned their esteemed position as one of the most prominent wine-making families in Australia. Today, David Morris continues their wine making history combining tradition with contemporary techniques, ensuring that the Morris name remains one of the Australia’s most iconic and respected wine family dynasties. The original vineyards were planted in 1859, in Rutherglen, Victoria, by George Morris. Sadly these vineyards were destroyed by Phyloxera in the late 1890s. However, Charles Morris (George's son) planted a new vineyard in 1897, just a few kilometres away from the original site. This vineyard, named Mia Mia, is still in use today. Fifth generation winemaker, David Morris, is currently the Chief Winemaker for Morris Wines, although the company was aquired by Casella brands in 2016. The Morris range focuses on fortified wines, for which they have won numerous awards over the years. But they also produce a range of table wines.
JAMES HALLIDAY - HALLIDAY'S WINE COMPANION
The olive edge to the cedar colour, and no hint of red, tells you there is going to be a large serving of dried fruits, spices, cakes and a brilliant streak of rancio-derived acidity coming up. And it's there in spades on the palate, with a harmonious, savoury spectrum, linked with a silver chain of acidity.
HUON HOOKE - THE REAL REVIEW
(500ml) Medium to deep red colour with tawny tinges and a lot of yellow in the rim. The bouquet is very perfumed with rose petal, floral scents as well as lovely muscat fruit but not so much raisining. The palate is very sweet and luscious, wonderfully deep and long with great flavour to match the high level of sweetness. Terrific freshness. A really smart muscat.
