In something of a homecoming, Yalumba’s Hill Smith family sold the Redbank vineyard and brand in late 2019 to three families with longstanding vineyard and winery involvement in north-eastern Victoria. The current release of Emily is the last that was made by the Yalumba team. Light to mid-yellow colour, indicating some aged material in the blend, which is also evident on the bouquet. It shows some toast and straw-like developed character, the palate light-bodied and soft, dry and savoury, and quite appetising. It's not a shrill, grapy style but more interesting than that. Fairly priced; sweet.
Deepish golden colour, with a developed and not very fresh bouquet. Herbal. The palate is dull and broad, lacking freshness and life, although there is some sourness from acidity. The flavour is certainly full, but it's flabby and soft and too old already.

The Emily is a blend of 10 family-run vineyards at high altitude in the King Valley. WINEMAKING This Emily is made up of 70% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. It's base vintage is 2019 and has spent 6 months in tank on lees, being disgorged December 2019. With 8g/L dosage and no oak, this is a crunchy and fruity style that celebrates the tension of the King Valley.
