  • THE BRIEF
  • Tahbilk is one of Victoria's leading cool climate wineries. Located in Nagambie, Tahbilk has on hand some of the oldest known plantings of Mourvedre, Shiraz and Marsanne anywhere in the world. It is a great historic estate, and one of the regions highest achievers. Their One Million Cuttings Shiraz is steeped in Tahbilk's rich history. Flush with pepper dipped plum character, this medium bodied Shiraz is a real winner.

  • THE FINER DETAILS
  • This wine was crafted from 100% Shiraz grapes, sourced from our vineyards in the Murray, Goulburn and King Valleys. Grapes were picked and crushed during the cool of night to retain their fresh, varietal flavours. The juice was then divided into select parcels. Each parcel underwent a different treatment such as malolactic fermentation; fermentation and time with French and American oak; or spending an extended period on yeast lees. Each treatment resulted in an individually flavoured parcel of wine, and the unique character and personality of the final blend is a result of the special handling of these separate parcels.

    WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?

This Shiraz has aromas of earth, spice and blackcurrants which are evident on the savoury palate. Abundant in dark berry and plum fruits with a hint of black pepper.

  • WHO MADE IT?
  • The name Tahbilk comes from the language of the Daung-wurrung clans, the first people in the area. They called it tabilk-tabilk which means place of many waterholes. Tahbilk Wines was established in 1860 in the Nagambie lakes sub region of Victoria’s Goulburn Valley. It is home to a unique meso-climate, influenced by inland lakes and lagoons fed from the Goulburn River. Purchased by the Purbrick family in 1925, Tahbilk is home to 5 generations. Tahbilk is home to 200 hectares of vine, including the traditional Rhone Valley varietals Marsanne, Viognier, Roussanne, Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvedre. Classic varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho are also present. Tahbilk's flagship 1860 Vines Shiraz is produced from the estate’s original 1/2 ha of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Shiraz vines that are amongst the oldest in the world.

    SAM KIM - WINE ORBIT

This is sweetly fruited on the nose showing juicy plum, blackberry, anise and roasted nut characters, leading to a succulent palate that is fleshy and smooth. Brightly fruited and immediately appealing with plenty of tasty flavours, finishing long and velvety.
