The USSEGLIO Estate is a family run business. Its creation dates back to 1948, that year, the grandfather, Francis USSEGLIO, left Italy to work a wine labourer in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. His very first harvest came out of the press in 1949.
Later, his son Pierre took over and increased the area of the Domaine Pierre Usseglio. Today it covers 39 hectares, 24 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge, 1 hectare of Châteauneuf-du-Pape blanc, 6 hectares of red Lirac, 6 hectares of Côtes-du-Rhône and 2 hectares of French wine, which are operated by pierre's two sons: Jean-Pierre and Thierry Usséglio.
Half of our vines are over 65 years old, the other is about forty years old. Yields are very low, about 20 to 25 hectolitres per hectare, depending on the vintage. The harvest is always manual and sorting remains selective.
The wines are then aged in 50% oak and 50% in concrete vats. From then on, we obtain powerful, round wines with strong aromas of red fruits and spices. The optimal period for drinking them is between 5 and 10 years, depending on tastes and vintages. Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge accompanies meats, sauce dishes and the tastiest cheeses.
