Considered by many to be the finest expression of straight semillon, be it here or anywhere else. Scents of lanolin, lemon drop, wild fennel and a hint of something soapy and broad, verging on buttered toast. A softer vintage befitting earlier drinking perhaps, but still a magnificent featherweight, destined for a life of 10 to 12 years. Transparent, highly regional and thoroughly convincing. An inimitable wine of terroir. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Read more

Manages to handle its alcohol with relative ease, a tribute to the oldest Lovedale vines. Lemongrass, pear and citrus easily take care of the acidity and the alcohol. Its balance guarantees future gold medals and other plaudits.

Straw-like and dried-floral aromas, a hint of pot-pourri. The wine is soft and gentle, rounded and rich, with a big middle-palate. It's straightforward and generous, dry and lingering, if a little surprising price-wise.

Winemakers Note
Once at the winery the Semillon was destemmed and pressed off skins to stainless steel tank. Here the juice was cold settled bright before being racked off, warmed, and inoculated for ferment. The juice was fermented with specific neutral yeast strain chosen to promote the vineyard specific flavours, and fermentation was conducted at cold temperatures to retain the delicate flavours. Following fermentation, the wines were settled, blended and gently fined before being filtered to bottle.
