This is ‘monte’ on steroids. Flavour-wise and alcohol-wise, the Italian grape variety meets Barossa Valley sunshine and goes large. Packed full of plum, black fruits, fruit cake and more, it is almost unrecognisable to some of the cooler climate Aussie examples of the grape starting to emerge. While the essence of the wine zeroes in on the intensity of ripe fruit, there is a thread of spice, particularly a lively bush mint and peppery character, that brings added interest and livens up the palate. Tannins aren’t shy so it is a match for some equally generously flavoured foods. Read more

Tasting Notes
Bright ruby/purple colour with cherry, blackberry fruit and pepper on the nose. A light to medium bodied style that makes a perfect food match to pizza and tomato based dishes. The palate shows hints of tar, chocolate, plum and spice with a firm, dry finish. Drink now or enjoy this wine over the next 3-5 years.
Winemakers Note
A grape with its roots in the Abruzzo region of east-central Italy, it may seem a bit wild and crazy to see a Rolf Binder Montepulciano in a bottle! We are lucky to have access to grapes from a long standing Eden Valley grower, who has grafted some old Riesling vines to this lovely varietal.
