The Collective Review

We don’t want to brag, but this might be the best value Burgundy in Australia…

This has been our top selling Burgundy for 5 years in a row. C’est magnifique!

Established in 1927, The Azé cellar is located in the heart of the Mâcon vineyards, in the south of Burgundy (in the Tournus-Cluny-Mâcon triangle). Originally, a cooperative of winegrowers came together to purchase equipment and carry out their winemaking together. Today, the concept is the same - the wines are produced with the help of two wine merchants and oenologists.

However, the vineyards have been around A LOT longer than that. Vines have been on the hillsides since Roman times. Once sustained by the monks of Cluny, the 280 hectares of vines are cultivated by around forty winegrowers. Here you’ll find Chardonnay, Aligoté, Gamay and Pinot Noir.

With only 74 hectares in the region set aside for white wine (and just 16ha for red!), it’s very much a case of quality over quantity here. And you’ll taste that in the glass.

The nose is elegant and powerful, with toasted vanilla aromas. After a bit of aeration and swirling in the glass, this wine reveals some exotic pineapple, intermingled with crisp green apple and lively citrus. It’s got a lovely minerality and texture, and a satisfying finish.

This is an elegant Chardonnay with a wonderful story - perfect for taking to your next dinner party, or popping on the table next time you’re hosting. It would be an absolute dream with Swiss-style raclette - gooey, melted cheese over cured meats, potatoes and cornichons.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to add some stellar white Burgundy to your collection.

Tasting Notes

A clear and deep yellow colour with golden highlights. The nose is elegant and powerful of toasted and vanilla aromas. After the aeration, this wine reveals some exotic fruits flavours. The attack is round and well-balanced, and offers a good vinosity. A long and vibrant finish concludes this greedy tasting.
