The Collective Review
Established in 1927, The Azé cellar is located in the heart of the Mâcon vineyards, in the south of Burgundy (in the Tournus-Cluny-Mâcon triangle). Originally, a cooperative of winegrowers came together to purchase equipment and carry out their winemaking together. Today, the concept is the same - the wines are produced with the help of two wine merchants and oenologists.
However, the vineyards have been around A LOT longer than that. Vines have been on the hillsides since Roman times. Sustained by the monks of Cluny, the 280 hectares of vines are cultivated by around forty winegrowers. Here you’ll find Chardonnay, Aligoté, Gamay and Pinot Noir.
With only 16 hectares in the region set aside for red wine, it’s very much a case of quality over quantity here. And you’ll taste that in the glass.
This Pinot is a bright, deep ruby red colour with purple tints. It reveals a slightly woody nose with an intense concentration of black fruit aromas. The palate is round and well-bodied, with the elegance of noble tannins. It offers a long and vibrant finish with plenty of juicy blackberries and toasted flavours.
This is an elegant Pinot Noir with a wonderful story - perfect for taking to your next dinner party, or popping on the table next time you’re hosting. It would be an absolute dream with anything duck-related - duck ravioli, roast duck with red wine jus, even duck pancakes.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to add some stellar Red Burgundy to your collection.
