The Collective Review

Procella is the Tumbarumba arm of giant-killing Hilltops winery Moppity, tapping into real cool climate vineyards to make seriously fresh wines.

Here, we see an achingly pure Pinot Noir that shows the grace and energy of the ultra-cool climate site. Tumbarumba, in the alpine hills of NSW, is one of the latest ripening regions in all of Australia and is known to produce perfumed and delicate wines. It was in this region that the likes of Penfolds and Hardy's both sought to make their flagship Yattarna & Eileen Hardy's wines respectively. No expense is spared from Jason Brown and the Moppity team, and you see it in the final result. Everything is hand-picked, barrel fermented and left to blossom with as little input from the winemaking team as possible. It's the purity of the vineyard fruit that comes to the fore, with a gossamer hint of vanilla, maraschino and clove, alongside the cherry and brambly notes.

Tasting Notes

Lifted and perfumed red fruits with floral violet notes. The palate is bright and generous with strawberry and maraschino cherry, gamey notes and Asian spices. A wonderfully textural wine with silky, polished tannins on the long finish.

Winemakers Note

The fruit was hand-picked and a portion was fermented on indigenous yeast with some whole bunches included in the ferment. Matured for 12 months in French Barriques.
