Winemakers Note

The Denton Pinot Noir block is situated at the top of the North Eastern slope, offering protection from the scorching afternoon sun and gentle morning light. The planting density of 1.3m x 0.8m enhances power and concentration, while preserving the vineyard's lightness and elegance. The granitic sand over granite boulders and prolonged growing season in the micro-climate generate a unique terroir.

The resulting wine features bright and fresh red and black fruit, as well as mineral florals, surrounded by delicate tannins on an acidic framework. Winemaker Luke Lambert employed a whole bunch fermentation method, followed by three weeks of skin contact before pressing to 500 litre French oak puncheons. After being left unsulfured for 15 months, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Despite the need for rigorous vineyard management to control disease and canopy growth, the 2021 vintage proved to be exceptional. With a mild and lengthy summer and timely rainfall, the classic Yarra Valley growing season rewarded the hard work of the team.
