Sourced from some of the oldest vines in the Barossa, planted in 1865. A gentle winemaking approach, including basket pressing and hand plunging, has contributed to the wine’s soft, supple, and silky-smooth texture. Tremendous depth of fruit on the palate with dark plums, licorice and subtle coffee grinds evident. A mix of new and older oak has played a strong supporting hand while the slightly chalky tannins are finely integrated to create a wine of great poise. Classic example of Barossa Shiraz in a very good year. Read more

This is a luxurious, and wonderfully balanced expression of Barossa that is truly moreish and perfectly matches the influence of fruit and oak. The nose is pretty, floral almost in terms of fruit before the onset of volumous vanillin tones that take on a milk chocolate thread. Fruit is at the core of the palate with plum and black cherry having a profound impact, but without being cloying. Oak has quality written all over it with a sheath of richness that integrates rather than drowning the fruit, whilst providing a milk chocolate influence. Great length to finish.

The grapes here come from ancient, and yes twisted, vines, originally planted in 1865. The wine makes a compelling argument for the joy that only old vines can offer, a cracking vintage doesn’t hurt either. Deep maroon/purple hue, the nose immediately gives up lashings of mocha, cassis, and chocolate flavours. All well supported by quality oak that offers notes of vanilla and nutmeg. More flavours emerge – aniseed, leather, and cloves. Moving to the palate, blueberries make a welcome appearance. The wine is dense and thoroughly saturated with delicious fruit. Serious length and the silkiest of tannins, it is a bit like a molten chocolate bar. Enjoy now for the next eight to twelve years. Love it.
