Grenache really is a hero for the region, especially when partnered with Shiraz and Mourvedre - just like it is with this Serafino GSM 2021.
This medium-bodied red showcases the red fruit beauty of McLaren Vale Grenache, supported by the plump, plummy goodness of ripe Shiraz and the darker earth/spice of Mourvedre.
It’s been a journey to get here. In 1964 Steve Maglier hasi arrived in Australia. The young man decides he wants t2 and the Serafino name is synonymous with quality Italian varietals and generous, nuanced reds.
It’s grenache-dominant and it’s mainly from the Blewitt Springs sub-region. A strong vintage has produced a strong wine. By strong I don’t just mean that there’s ample flavour but more that the flavours are in the right zone: perfumed, fresh, red berried and spice laden, with lacy tannin keeping the impression firm but light. The longer I sat with this the more excellent it seemed. Raspberry and red liquorice meet woodsy spice, undergrowth and aromatic herbs, with slightly gritty tannin an absolute positive. Tasting Notes
Vegan Deep red with purple hues, Aromas of forest berries, rose petals, cherries, plums & spice. Medium bodied with beautiful long even bright palate with musk, violets, plums and mouth watering silky tannins.
Winemakers Note
GSM fruit is sourced from our vineyards across McLaren Vale mostly from old vines in Blewitt Springs and Mclaren Flat. The old bush vine adds strength and texture to the mid palate.
