Tasting Notes

Bright ruby/ crimson colour with purple hue. Mild and aromatic bouquet of summer pudding with floral wafts. The medium bodied palate is ripe and smooth, lead by dark Satsuma Plum flavour along with delicious juicy ripe Mulberries and comforting Cinnamon spice with a hint of cedar oak. It has a crisp line of acidity that finishes with a lingering embrace of peppery warmth. Though it will drinks well now, it should cellar for 5 to 7 years. Its versatility means that it can be paired with virtually any food, but perfect with pan-fried duck breast, crispy pork or roasted vegetables.

Winemakers Note

Little Jack Horner grew up to be J. Esquire but he never forgot the delight of finding a juicy whole plum in his pie, pulled out on his thumb (or pinky). Just so, you will find such delicious delights in this J. Esquire Grenache – a luscious mouthful of ripe plum, berries and spice, sans the baked pastry. Medium-bodied, its lip- smacking goodness will leave you huddled in the corner for your second glass! The fruit for the J. Esquire Grenache is sourced from hand tended blocks in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale. Primary fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel vats and open fermenters after which the wine is assembled into tank and allowed to complete a natural malolactic fermentation before being pressed off. It is then transferred to well-seasoned hogsheads and aged for up to 12 months prior to bottling with minimal filtration. The result is a wine with lovely fruit purity complemented by light oak tannin for easy enjoyment.
