Strawberry, yoghurty notes, whiff of vanilla. Light and creamy texture, stern line of saline acidity driving long through the wine. White strawberry, green-red fruitiness, crisp to finish. Tightly wound, light-on style here. Delicate and delicious. Pair with fruit salad.

Quartz Reef is vignerons Rudi Bauer's label a leading light in Central Otago's winemaking scene and a thoughtful winemaker. He's making some seriously good sparkling, too, such as this pinot noir non-vintage rose that has an enticing vibrant cherry hue and plenty of long-lasting bead. It's loaded with ripe, red fruits- think raspberries and strawberries, plus spice notes; really concentrated and rich, with a bit of a pinot noir tannic grip on the long finish, perfectly balancing the wine. Not an aperitif style, this is a rose with oomph.
