The Collective Review

You could see it in his smile. Mark Pollard, our head wine buyer, returned to the office with an unmistakable pep in his step and a grin from ear to ear. "We've got it," he exclaimed, achieving the unthinkable - a hidden wine world gem, whispered about by Zegna-suited power diners and Melbourne's coolest Sommeliers.

This was the wine Mark had longed to bring to The Wine Collective. However, with only 90 dozen produced in some years, it seemed impossible. Allocations were tight, and barely a bottle of this wine ended up in the hands of critics or reviewers, let alone the likes of us. Yet Mark's deep connections and his friendship with an artisan winemaking hero made it happen, and his infectious enthusiasm soon spread. He shared the story and the rare chance for TWC to secure this exceptional find.

Introducing Trapeze, a small Yarra winery producing minuscule batch bottles. Led by the legendary Brian Conway, known for his work at Izway in the Barossa Valley, Trapeze was born from the collaboration between wine greats like James Lance (Punch, Diamond Valley) and Stuart Proud (Thousand Candles). This Pinot, sourced from low-yielding, dry-grown vines in Steels Creek, embodies the magic of Brian's winemaking - a light footprint with a profound impact.

As you savour it, you'll experience the fusion of autumn and spring in a glass. Earth, forest floor, and bright, vivid notes of cherry, plum, roses, and blackberry nettles create a complex yet approachable flavour. When you try it, you'll want to mark a date on your calendar to celebrate the anniversary of your first encounter with Trapeze. It's a memory that you'll cherish forever, just as our head-buyer Mark did when he first tried the 2023 vintage.

Don't miss the chance to secure one of just a handful of cases of this extraordinary 2023 Early Pinot Noir today.

Seductive aromas of tobacco and leather wrap around a tight bouquet of well-textured cherries and strawberries. This plush, velvetty texture continues onto the rich and concentrated palate. Touch of spice, lively acid, soft tannins. Good drive on the finish.

Tasting Notes

Wine; Super light Ruby/Garnet colours. So perfumed, light strawberry, raspberries, dried thyme (whole bunch?) and a bit of Jamon just for kicks! Really light and delicious on the palate, fresh strawberries, cranberry and raspberry, dried herbs. Tannins just right and lovely acid line through to the persistent and super fresh finish.
